Overview

Neurology

A branch of medicine related to the nervouXsa system is called NeurXologSy. This is the study & treatment of disorders of the nervous system. Our nervous system is a complex and delicate system, which regulates & coordinates our bodies’ activities. Nesurology has two major divisions:

1-    Central nervous system

2-    Peripheral nervous system

Neurological disorders are medically defined as disorders, which affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord. The central nervous system is related to the brain and spinal cord whereas the Peripheral nervous system is related to all other neural elements like eyes, ears, skin, and other "sensory receptors"

Neurolwqogists at Prasidh hospitals are usually physicians but they may also refer their patients, if required, to surgeons specializing in neurology called neurosurgeons. Structural, biochemical, or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord, or other nerves could result in a range of symptoms.

Neuroloqgy is connected with psychiatry and onqcology. The word neurology comes from a combination of two words, and these are - "neuron" meaning nerve, and "logia" meaning "the study of". So, means Neurology is the study of the complete nerve system.

In our brain, there are approx. hundred neurons in the brain which are capable of generating their impulses which receive and transmit impulses from other closed cells. A doctor who gives treatment in nequrology is called the neurologist.

You must contact your doctor if you have any of these problems:

•             Severe headaches or migraines.

•             Chronic lower back or neck pain.

•             Seizures or tremors.

•             Loss of consciousness.

•             Confusion or disorientation.

•             Sudden dizziness or loss of balance.

•             Memory loss.

•             Concussion.

Why Chose Us

The neurolsaogist of Prasidh hospital treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves like-

1.            Cerebrovascular disease, such as stroke

2.            Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, like multiple sclerosis

3.            If you are suffering from headache disorders

4.            If you have Infections of the brain & peripheral nervous system

5.            Movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease

6.            Neurodegenerative disorders such as-

i.              Alzheimer's disease

ii.             Parkinson's disease

iii.            Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease)

7.            Seizure disorders, such as epilepsy

8.            Spinal cord disorders

9.            Speech and language disorders

This has to be noted that Neurologists do not perform surgery. If one of their patients requires surgery, they may refer them to a neurosurgeon.

Our many neurologists also have additional training or interest in one area of neurology like stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular, sleep medicine, pain management, or movement disorders.

Our neurologist’s treatment includes-

1.            Stroke

2.            Alzheimer's disease

3.            Parkinson's disease

4.            Multiple sclerosis

5.            Amyotrophicpic lateral sclerosis

6.            Migraine

7.            Epilepsy

8.            Sleep disorders

9.            Pain

10.          Tremors

11.          Brain

12.          Spinal cord injury

13.          Peripheral nerve disease

14.          Brain tumors.

Our hospital Prasidh work on structural and functional disorders of the nervous system ranging from birth defects to degenerative diseases such as Parkidwqson's disease and Alzdheimer's disease.

Our doctors are familiar with disorders of the nervous system for centuries. Such as Parkinson’s disease, for example, was described as ‘shaking palsy' in 1817. It was only late into the 20th century, although, that a deficiency in the neurotransmitter dopamine was identified as the cause of Parkinson's disease and its symptoms such as tremors and muscle rigidity. Alzheimer's disease, which is related to the nervous system only, was first described in the year 1906.

Prasidh hospital’s Neurologwdy also involves understanding and interpreting imaging and electrical studies. Examples of the imaging studies used include computed tomography or CT scans and magnetic resonance imaging or MRI scans. An electroencephalogram, known as EEG can be used to assess the electrical activity of the brain in the diagnosis of conditions such as epilepsy. Neurologists or our hospital also diagnose infections of the nervous system by analyzing the cerebrospinal fluid, known as CSF, a clear fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Treatments

The main areas of neurology are-

1.            The autonomic

2.            Central

3.            Peripheral nervous systems.

Neurological disorders are different between infants, young children, and adults. Neurological problems in those who are younger than 18 years are managed by pediatric neurologists. Disorders that affect the pediatric population are-

1.            Cerebral palsy

2.            Complex metabolic diseases

3.            Epilepsy

4.            Learning disabilities

5.            Nerve and muscle diseases

A neurologist is a trained doctor to diagnose and treat neurological disorders. Neurologists should first determine if a problem exists in the nervous system. The patient’s health history is reviewed and followed by a neurological exam, which assesses the function of cranial nerves, coordination, mental status, sensation, strength, and reflexes.

Once a diagnosis is developed, more tests could be warranted to guide treatment. Its diagnosis is carried out by some tests such as the computed axial tomography scan, magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, or electromyography. Neurological disorders are comprised of many serious things such as brain cancer, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord disorders, diseases, which affect the muscles and peripheral nerves, and neuromuscular junctions.

One major clinical division of neurology is neuro-oncology, which consists of the management of patients with primary brain tumors (which could be converted into cancers), metastases, and the neurologic complications of cancer.
